Quicksand or Springboard?

“Let your past become your springboard, not your quicksand.”  Steve Maraboli

There is so much evidence coming out now that supports the concept that ‘our biography becomes our biology.’ This is the subtitle to a great book, “Childhood Disrupted,” by Donna Jackson Nakazawa. It is really helpful that research is now connecting the events of our past to our present health so that we understand there are other reasons than the straight physical or genetic input. However this is not then an excuse to point the finger of blame in someone else’s direction & allow that to hold our healing back.

Although this book is relating adverse childhood experiences to our health, the same applies to our emotional and psychological state. So much of my work revolves around this issue of helping the understanding of my clients, and then knowing that, to help them get their feet out of the quicksand, as they may see it, and move forward to their goals and dreams. To help them recognise the strategies of behaviour that they may have put in place as a pre-schooler, subconsciously of course. To help them recognise that although these strategies were appropriate back then, they may well not be now. To see that it may now be time to reframe how they look at life and make different choices about how they respond to life’s challenges. What lessons have you learnt from your past, that have given you positive experiences for the rest of your life?

Enjoy using that springboard to avoid the quicksand!

Unlock Your Inner Instinct!

“Pay attention to whatever inspires you, for it is ‘spirit’ trying to communicate with you, that’s why it’s called’ inspiration’ as ‘inspirit.’ Listen to it, believe it, and act on it.”

For some of you using the word spirit, in the sense of communication, may be uncomfortable or not something you are used to doing. To talk about your gut instinct or connecting from the heart may be much more natural. All are giving us information that we are not reading out of a book or hearing from another human being. We all have other ways of getting information that we are comfortable to act on. Sometimes we can take a specific time each day to ‘tune in’ to hear what this information is. Other times it may just suddenly come when we are doing things that are completely unrelated. We all have the ability to hear this inspirational information but because of our conditioning we may feel uncomfortable about it, we may be sceptical or we may just not believe the information we are being given.

If you are open to experimenting with your inspirational messages, you could start to give yourself even 5 minutes a day to just sit quietly, focusing on your breath and don’t give up if you feel ‘nothing is happening.’ At other times notice ‘coincidences’ that you may already be experiencing and follow up on them. E.g. something was telling you take an umbrella when there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, but you chose to reason with your intellectual mind and left it at home. Later the clouds rolled in and down came the rain. Another thing we can do if we get a feeling about someone, is to ask them if ‘such and such, ‘ is correct. If you are correct, you may start to feel more confident about listening to your gut instinct on a regular basis, then believe it and act on it.

Enjoy connecting to your inspiration!

It’s Your Choice!

“The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It’s about what you’re made of, not the circumstances.”   Unknown

We are often hearing that it’s not what happens to us but how we react to it that makes the difference. At a deeper level we really do know this to be true, but it can be hard to rise above it when we feel life has delivered us an unfair deal, or when we have made a decision that comes back to ‘bite us in the b…’ We want to blame everyone out there, but not ourselves. When in that situation we don’t want to hear that we have attracted whatever has happened, that we create our own reality with our predominant thoughts. Yes I know we write down our goals, put out the positive affirmations, and wait for our dreams to materialise. But what are the thoughts you are having for the rest of the day? Are you doubting yourself, not really believing in all this stuff or listening to the inner critic telling you’re aren’t good enough in some way?

It’s time to make some changes in your head. When we listen to the judge we close down our energy and effectively put out thoughts that have a low, slow vibration, and attract more of that into our lives. When we have a daily practice of something as simple as writing down what we are grateful each day, research has shown that we raise our vibration and that then is what goes out into the universe to attract more of that into our lives. As Denis Waitley says, “There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist; or accept the responsibility for changing them.” Which choice are you going to make?

Enjoy choosing what it will be!

Do You Believe in Electricity?

“Looking for consciousness in the brain, is like looking inside a radio for the announcer.”  Nassim Haramein

As an acupuncturist trying to find clinical reasoning for why acupuncture works, it can be quite frustrating. A lot of the time we only have case studies with great results that go back a couple of thousand years, but as yet we don’t have enough evidence that has stood up in the trials. These trials have been conducted in the only ways we know how at the moment. Sooner or later someone is going to come up with some tests or trials that will show what we can only know from observation of patient results, as of now. Sooner or later we will be able to prove how and where the energy moves in the body and how that affects us on a daily basis.

Quantum physicists have brought so much understanding of the metaphysical world out into the open, but because we can’t see the energy that they talk of, we allow our scepticism to rule. It all sounds a bit ‘far-fetched,’ a bit of a stretch for our imaginations. We can’t see electricity, but we know what happens if we stick our finger into an electrical socket, or how we can benefit from the results of using electricity. At some point in time there must have been a tipping point of acceptance, when it was no longer okay to scoff at what the experts were saying, when you were in the minority.  I wonder how long it will be, before talking about consciousness and the metaphysics of the energetic world becomes the norm, and we have moved on to something else to stretch our minds with.

Enjoy being a philosopher!

Ask and Ye Shall Receive!

“Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it!”   Maya Angelou

Have you noticed how persistent children are when they want something? They are not afraid to ask over & over for what they want, until they get it. They can be very persistent. In his book, ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ Napoleon Hill says, that the “quality of persistence is to a person’s character what carbon is to steel.” He also says, that “lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure.” I don’t know about you, but often we consider asking for help as a sign of neediness and that might sound weak. And for you guys in particular, out there, being seen as weak  is putting yourself in a place of vulnerability.

For those of you brought up on the bible’s wisdom will know the words, “Ask and ye shall receive.” This has been brought into all the teachings about the ‘Law of Attraction.’ However for these more recent teachings we are being told, that although you should ask and have an expectation to receive, there is also an element of taking steps to work towards the expected outcome. This teaching doesn’t take into account those serendipitous things that happen without having taken any steps in that particular direction. The expectation part is all to do with the energy we have in our field. If we keep second guessing and doubting this will be the predominant energy of asking that will go out into the universe and we won’t attract what we are wanting and think we have asked for. If we truly expect a certain outcome without being attached to it being exactly as we wanted, what we have asked for, will materialise, but maybe not in the time frame you were planning on.
