Bring on the Joy

“Don’t be weighed down by things that drain your energy!  If it doesn’t bring you joy chuck it, change it, or rearrange it!”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Often as adults we have a belief that we have to work hard for everything that brings us pleasure or we have to be responsible adults all the time and there isn’t time to have fun or joy in our lives.  However there is a school of thought that believes, if we follow our purpose or what we are passionate about, then we will feel the joy or bliss that gives us the reason to keep moving towards our goals.  If we are feeling the joy then we are, in modern words, ‘in the zone.’  In the long run we will achieve more by being in this state than pushing towards something we are only half-hearted about and it feels hard.

Asking yourself regularly, “Am I energized or dragged down, am I inspired or frustrated, am I lifted up or drained?”  The answers to these questions really can help you to make decisions as to where and with whom you spend your time.  Sometimes we can’t ‘chuck it,’ we have to make changes or rearrange how and with whom we are spending our time.  It isn’t always possible to move out of a job we love, purely because there are people around us who are draining.  It is up to us to change our perspective, allow them to be who they are, without allowing them to drain our energy.   Be open to appreciating the joy and bliss that is there.

Enjoy feeling the joy!
