“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” Anon
Have you ever thought about whether you are spreading light around you. Light is a form of energy and as I’ve said many times in the past we are all energy, in fact everything in the universe is energy. Are you aware of whether you are spreading light authentically from the core of who you have been since conception or are you putting out a persona to the world that is a mixture of the conditioning you have received over the years form parents, teachers, siblings and friends. Or maybe you are now be dancing to the tune of your life partner and not allowing your own inner glow to show through.
Do you have some quiet time each day that has been put aside for you alone? A time to get to know who you really are under the masks and costumes that you allow the world to see. A time to have a conversation and ask questions of the part of you that knows all the answers for you, for your highest good. Being around my 2 year old grand daughter using the word ‘mine,’ reminds me that we all have a ‘mine’ authentic being, hiding behind the face we are choosing to show to the world.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” Maya Angelou
I have often talked about the choices we have in life. We all know people who seemed to be able to make the best of the challenges they have been dealt out, and others who do nothing but complain about their lot in life, even though looking on we can’t see what they have to grumble about in comparison. We all filter our experiences through the beliefs we hold about our life. A belief is the mental acceptance of a statement or fact as true. And all those messages we have gathered from our parents, teachers and other significant adults, have led us to believe certain things about our world that are ‘truths.’ However these ‘truths’ are not true for everyone else.
Next time you face something you don’t like, check on the filter of the glasses you are wearing. Could your thoughts and feelings be influenced by the voices in your head, voices of people who are no longer even alive? Notice if everyone else involved has the same reaction to your challenge. Maybe the challenge actually has a ‘lesson’ for us, if we allow ourselves to change our attitude that is no longer serving us. No one likes to listen to a complainer and as I’ve said before, complainers are victims to their outside world. As Maya Angelou says, we all have 2 choices, to change the situation or change our perspective about it.
Enjoy making those choices! Robyn
“Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.” Anon
I don’t know anything about chess, but like any game, the results mean nothing in the scheme of things. This was a big lesson for an old coach of mine who was playing monopoly with older family members. Each time they pulled out the board she longed to win, to show them that she was worth taking notice of. Then finally the day came when filled with excitement, she got to her goal. But it was a very empty excitement when her mother called them for dinner & tipped the game back into a box. What she learnt, it was just a game, that we need to let go of any attachment to the outcome as is the case in life.
However, the other lesson we can learn from this quote, is that within every shape or colour we are all the same. No matter what we do in life whether the surgeon, the film star or the street sweeper, we are all the same. We are all part of the universe like a cell of a body. We all have a part to play, a strength that can benefit the whole. So this other person who is either pushing your button or whom you admire, is just a reflection of yourself. So take note where you might recognise the ‘king’ or ‘pawn’ in someone else & where you might find it in yourself. This can be a helpful lesson.
Enjoy recognising the king or pawn in yourself! Robyn
And while doing this, have a great ‘R & R’ time over your break, so that 2014 doesn’t look too daunting. It’s amazing what some connecting with friends and family can do to lower the stress levels
“I’m a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” Thomas Jefferson
One of the definitions in the Oxford Dictionary states that ‘luck is a series of happy chances.’ Now that we have a ton of work that has been done by the quantum physicists, we understand that we can create our own luck. A lot of people used to talk of my husband as lucky – even simple things like finding a car park right where he wanted it. Having watched how hard he worked I agreed with the author of this quote, that in fact he created most of his luck. However, he also used the Law of Attraction. We didn’t consciously know about that then, but he did set an intention (not necessarily on paper as they would suggest), had the belief in himself to go after that intention, worked hard at anything that would take him in the right direction and voilà he was’ lucky’ enough for something good to happen.
“But I work really hard,” I hear you say. Do you believe that your hard work is going to achieve what you want? Do you believe that you have what it takes to reach your goal? If so, are you ready to accept that what you ‘intend’ is not necessarily going to arrive in your time frame or exactly as you had envisaged? This can be the missing part of the puzzle, and a harder piece to accept. Our part is to put out the intention, work towards achieving that goal and being open to opportunities that come along. We then have to let go of the attachment of the result looking a certain way. This is the piece I’m having to work on, on a daily basis. It’s called ‘being detached from the outcome.’ Wow!
Enjoy working hard and being detached from the outcome! Robyn
“The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. No not at all. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be.” Robert Fulgham
The Law of Attraction states that we will attract where we focus our attention. Many people don’t believe in the Law of Attraction because they put out their wish list and then focus on the reasons why it won’t turn up for them, why it hasn’t turned up, notice their lack and limiting circumstances and then wonder why their ‘order’ hasn’t been delivered. This is like planting a seed and continuing to dig it up to see if it’s growing. We don’t usually do that because we know that if we nurture the seed with the warmth and water that it needs, it will sprout within an expected time line.
Our thought seeds are no different. The Law of Attraction is as real as the Law of Gravity or electricity. We don’t doubt those? Perhaps it’s because we have our own idea of the timeline, and when our ‘asked-for’ stuff doesn’t arrive, we give up on our belief about it ever turning up. This is one of major reasons people say it doesn’t work – it doesn’t turn up in our expected time line. The other reason is being attached to it looking a certain way, when in fact with our limited perspective we can’t see how much bigger and better our thought seed could grow. So to nurture our thought seed, we water it with positive belief in it growing to at the very least our expected outcome, regardless of which side of the fence we are sitting at the time.
Enjoy watering your thought seeds! Robyn
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” George Bernard Shaw
Do you know that we can all create the life we choose in any moment? This is not just some fanciful wishful thinking. It is a law! There is a part of us that we may call our authentic self or the essence that we were born with and this part never changes. Just like the sun that gets lost behind the clouds, that essence is always there and can be connected with at any time.
Many people who have got caught up in the personal development wave, search outside themselves for this part of them, not knowing that the best way to connect is through our own heart. It may seem false to create a new you, but over the years you have created the person you are today. So creating a you that is more in line with the authentic part, is no different than what we have done in the past. We may meet with resistance from the family of origin because we all like to keep things the same. It feels safe. If it feels good to live from your heart then you will want to continue and won’t need to continue searching to ‘find yourself.’
Enjoy creating yourself! Robyn
“No one imagines that a symphony is supposed to improve in quality as it goes along, or that the whole object of playing it is to reach the finale. The point of music is discovered in every moment of playing and listening to it. It is the same, I feel, with the greater part of our lives, and if we are unduly absorbed in improving them, we may forget altogether to live them. Alan Watts
There are a lot of messages out there about living in the now. What we do in this now will affect our future and what we did in the ‘nows’ of the past have created our lives as they are today. So rather than always regretting things that have happened in the past and can’t be changed, or looking forward to that perfect day in the future when we have achieved whatever it is we think we want, it can be very satisfying to live each moment to the full and to the best of our ability and let it go!
I know we all find it easier to feel good when the sun is shining. The trick is, to decide to feel good in any given moment. One way to do this is to regularly connect with the energy of our hearts, to get in touch with the goodness of our authentic selves and live from that place throughout the whole symphony. However I have heard a quote that says there are no enlightened people, only people having enlightened moments.
Enjoy living lots of enlightened moments from start to finish! Robyn
When someone leaves, it’s because someone else is about to arrive.” Paul Coelho
Have you heard that nature abhors a vacuum? And it doesn’t just apply to people. If we are wrestling with a decision and still have the belief that we have all the control over our lives then we may hang on to something longer than we need to, because we can’t face life without him/her/it. The Universal Energy or Spirit has a part to play in co creating our lives and has a much better view of how life could look for us if we are able to take off the blinkers of conditioned beliefs and see how amazing we really are and how to trust that inner voice to let go of what no longer serves us.
There are a lot of natural laws that we are never taught, that are as real as the Law of Gravity. One of these is the Law of Sacrifice. This states that something always has to be sacrificed for something else. This may be related to time, money or experiences. It may be something as simple as choosing a T.V. channel, if we are not going to record one. But whichever we choose we are still sacrificing something else to watch T.V. at all. If you want to study to get a degree you will have to sacrifice something else to be disciplined to do the required learning. We often think of sacrifice as giving up pleasures, but being disciplined to give up what may be of a lesser value, could open up the way for something of a higher value!
Enjoy letting go what no longer serves you! Robyn
