“Be happy for no reason, like a child. If you are happy for a reason, you’re in trouble because that reason can be taken from you.” Anon
I have a short video clip of my grand-daughter at about 18 months old walking along laughing herself silly, she plopped on to her bottom and rolled around on the floor with her infectious laugh continuing. When I asked my daughter what she was laughing about, she said, “nothing.” I have a heard a quote about 4 year olds laughing 400 times a day but adults can only crack out 15. Of course this is an average but when did we start learning to be so serious. When did we start shutting down our ability to be ‘Happy for No Reason.’
I have talked before about the choices we have in every moment. With my work as a physiotherapist and acupuncturist I treat people with chronic pain on a regular basis. How they handle this pain varies a lot. Some are not ready to move on from the suffering and I understand how hard it must be sometimes when you are in constant pain. At the other end of the scale I have people come in who are coping with constant pain, who choose to put on a brave face, and do all they can to heal and smile through their challenges. I often wonder whether I could choose to be happy despite ‘my painful lot.’ These people are not letting their happiness be taken from them, even though living a ‘normal’ life has been.
Enjoy choosing to be happy for no reason like a child!
