“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” Anon
I have just had a book recommended to me , “Childhood Disrupted. How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology and How You Can Heal.” By Donna Jackson-Nakazawa. This could be quite a depressing read if it wasn’t so fascinating. The biography of adults who have had ‘Adverse Childhood Experiences, (ACE) has been shown conclusively, through all sorts of research, to predictably lead to cancers, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, anxiety and depression, as an adult, years later. Donna herself having had ACEs, and a journalist, has managed to put across the science while interspersing with case histories of adults now in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. She makes it a very interesting read. I haven’t finished reading it yet but I understand that there are some things we can do to cheat those statistics and live the life we know we were born to have. I have resisted the urge to flip the pages and get to that part earlier rather than later.
Within that change however, is the desire to no longer accept that our past is writing our story going forward. If you are not already consciously working towards your destiny, when are you going to decide to be the person who is willing to step up to the plate and play your life as you know you can? Each day is the start of the rest of your life, in fact every hour or minute. The decision is yours in any given moment whether to live your life on purpose or stay stuck where you are. I’m not saying this lightly as for some of us this is not easy to do. If you make the decision to be that person you are destined to become, the health benefits could be ‘worth their weight in gold.’
Enjoy making the decisions!
